Today, the silent “The City Without Jews” is regarded as one of the most important Austrian productions of the interwar period. Based on the eponymous novel by the Jewish writer and journalist Hugo Bettauer, the film from 1924 anticipated the Holocaust. The film was only preserved in a fragmentary and, in terms of its content, downplayed version, until the Filmarchiv Austria succeeded in finding the missing parts in France.
For this extraordinary silent film project was commissioned the Austrian composer Olga Neuwirth to write an accompanying music. For the first time in Russia the film “A City without Jews” will be shown with the music of Olga Neuwirth performed by the ensemble "Studio for New Music" under the direction of Igor Dronov.
