At the first International Cello Competition “Anna Kull” at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG) from 10 to 22 February, 95 young cellists from 30 countries will be performing before a distinguished jury. The fringe events programme will include concerts by prestigious cellists Jens Peter Maintz and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt (Cello Duello) and David Geringas. As a crowning finale, the competition prize-winners will give a gala concert in the Graz Opera House with the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra under Ingo Ingensand.The International Cello Competition “Anna Kull” is designed as a youth competition. There will be three age categories which will cover young people born in the years 2000-2006. The first competition will be held from 10 to 22 February 2020 at the KUG. During the 12 days, there will be three open competition rounds in which 95 cellists from 30 countries will perform before an international jury, consisting of prominent figures Julian Arp, David Geringas, Monika Leskovar, Milos Mlejnik, Gergely Mohl, Ditta Rohmann, Wen-Sinn Yang and Anke Schittenhelm (jury chair). In addition to coaching sessions for those who have been eliminated, participants will receive feedback from the jurors and career advice from Andreas Vierziger. The winners of the competition will perform with the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra on the stage of Graz Opera House at the grand Gala Concert on 22 February 2020. Prize-winners will also be offered numerous special award and performance opportunities, including concerts at Jeunesse, at the Musikverein Graz or at the styriarte music festival.The competition will open and close with concerts by renowned cellists: Jens Peter Maintz and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt will perform as Cello Duello on 13 February in the MUMUTH, while David Geringas will present his Bach Plus programme on 16 February in the Florentiner hall.
