The Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra
Conductor: Rainer Honeck
With support of: VAMED, Raiffeisen
The concert’s focus is on the music which made Austria and Vienna famous all over the world, namely Viennese classic and in particular the oeuvre of Johann Strauss.
The Symphony Orchestra of Saint Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre is one of Russia’s leading orchestras and besides its commitments in Saint Petersburg itself, regularly puts in guest performances all over the world.
Rainer Honeck, who will be conducting the concert with the Symphony Orchestra of Saint Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre, began his career as violinist with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic, before becoming their concert master.
After graduating from Vienna’s University of Music, Austrian violinist Rainer Honeck began his career with the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Philharmonic, ultimately becoming the concertmaster of both orchestras. As a soloist he has performed at many of Europe’s leading music centres and in the United States and Japan, where in particular he performed all of Mozart’s works for violin and orchestra. Rainer Honeck is also dedicated to chamber music. After leading the Wiener Virtuosen chamber music ensemble and the Wiener Streichersolisten, he is currently the artistic director of the Kammerorchester Wien-Berlin. He has been invited to appear as guest conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra in June 2013.
