International academic conference “70th Anniversary of the Moscow Declaration”
A collaboration of: Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for War Research, Institute for Global History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Austrian Embassy in Moscow
To mark the 70th anniversary of the Moscow Declaration the Austrian Embassy in Moscow the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for War Research and the Institute for Global History are organising an academic conference at the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Between 19 October and 1 November 1943 the Foreign Secretaries of the UK, the US and the Soviet Union met in Moscow to discuss their further co-operation in the war against Nazi Germany. One of the outcomes of the conference was the Moscow Declaration, which among others stated that Austria had been the first victim of Hitler’s occupation policy and should be re-established as a free and independent state. After the war, Austrians would also be judged by the part they themselves played in their liberation from the Nazi regime.
At the conference, historians from Austria, Russia, Germany, the US and other countries will be taking stock of the current state of the research.
