Concert by Viennese chief cantor Shmuel Barzilai

The Viennese chief cantor Shmuel Barzilai is not only an internationally renowned cantor, but also one of the popular singers in Austria. After giving concerts in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, he will be for the first time on stage in Kaliningrad. The concert is a cooperation with the Jewish community in Kaliningrad. On the program are famous Jewish songs from Vienna and Israel as well as classic Italian arias.
About Shmuel Barzilai:
Shmuel Barzilai was born in Jerusalem in a family of renowned cantors. He studied at the Beer Yaakov, K’nesset Chiskijahu an Hevron Yeshivas. He received his basic education from the Viennese Cantor Zalman Polak. Barzilai graduated from the Institute of music and cantoral singing in Tel Aviv and studied with world famous cantors like Moshe Stern, Naftali Herstik, Shmuel Taube, Yizchak Eshel and the conductor Elli Jaffe. He majored in philosophy and Judaic studies at the University of Vienna where he received his Master’s degree. Since 1992 Shmuel Barzilai is Chief Cantor of the Vienna Jewish Community.
