Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine all bilateral cultural activities with Russian state institutions and organizations have been temporarily suspended.

The Austrian Cultural Forum Moscow (ACF Moscow) sees itself as a cooperation partner and contact point for Austrian artists, cultural institutions and scientists for the initiation, planning and implementation of Austro-Russian cultural and scientific projects.

The Diplomatische Akademie Wien (DA) - Vienna School of International Studies offers intensive German classes for learners of all levels – from beginners to advanced, everybody can find a course suitable to their individual requirements.

Target group: Students and professionals and all those who want to learn German and know more about Austrian politics, history, society and culture (minimum age: 18)

The annual Day of European Languages ​​will take place again on the 21st of September 2024 from 11:00 till 18:00.  The participation is free, but the registration is available under the link. 

The Day of European Languages has a very interesting program and consists of lectures, workshops, classes in foreign languages and speak dating - small talks with native speakers.

European Day of Languages 2024

This course will be held weekly on Wednesdays from 03.04. till 29.05.2024 (08.00 - 09.30). 

At the online course, employees of government agencies (Embassies, Consulates, international organizations) will be taught comprehension strategies using authentic texts. In addition, situations typical for consulates and government agencies will be considered and learned.

The course will be held in small groups of 10-12 people.

The language level for the participation at the cours schould be at least B2.

Online intensive course “German for the diplomatic and management sphere”

For the first time, the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research has established a state prize in the field of historical sciences to support Austria as a place for historical research, young scientists and the development of communication in the field of science. Prizes are given in several categories - state prize, prizes for young talents and the "innovative history" prize. All award-winning entries must have a meaningful connection to Austria.

Austrian State prize for historicel sciences

On its 11th anniversary, the Intercultural Achievement Award honours international and Austrian projects in the fields of arts and culture, youth, human rights, global citizenship education, integration and gender equality. The IAA is awarded in seven categories:

On the occasion of the 12th International Competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music” 2025, member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions, and the Alink-Argerich Foundation, contemporary compositions for Trio for Piano, Violin and Violoncello (Piano Trio) are sought. The primary aim of this competition is to encourage the creation of new works for this chamber music category.

The prizewinning work will be on the programme of the above-mentioned competition in February 2025 as a compulsory piece in the category Piano Trio, and will be premiered and performed several times.

On the occasion of the 12th International Chamber Music Competition, we are also searching for contemporary compositions for Trio for Piano, Violin and Violoncello (Piano Trio). The primary aim of our Compositition Competition 2024 is to encourage the creation of new works for this chamber music category.

The prizewinning work will be on the programme of the above-mentioned competition in February 2025 as a compulsory piece in the category Piano Trio and will be premiered and performed several times. The competition is open to the public and invites composers from all nations and stateless persons to apply.

The positive development of the regional labour market in the sector of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has resulted in an increasing demand for skilled professionals. Happy Austrian National Day 2023!

The Delegation of the European Union in Russian Federation is resuming the European Film Festival, which this year will be held online.

This year the festival will be held online for the second time. The previous such experience in 2021 turned out to be successful: in 32 days, the program’s films were watched by 30 thousand people from 80 Russian cities. 

The slogan of this year’s festival is “Cinema unites!” – emphasizes the unity of cultures and interests.

The festival program includes another 20 films, documentaries and animation films from 25 European countries (Austria, Germany, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and others).

The Mauricio Kagel composercompetition will take place for the sixth time.

 Organized by the Ludwig van Beethoven Institute for Piano in Music Education at the mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, international composers are invited to submit piano pieces for children and young people.

 The Mauricio Kagel composer competition is characterized by its particularly transparent and fair selection process. The renowned international jury will publicly discuss the decision in a process lasting several days. The finalists will receive attractive money prize and a publication of the work by Universal Edition.

During the strict lockdowns, galleries and museums closed for months, and the only way to stay connected to their audiences was to launch online projects. Although museums have returned to their usual routine, albeit with limitations, digital products are not going anywhere. In fact, they are gaining momentum with each passing day.

Strelka Mag and the Austrian Cultural Forum in Moscow spoke with the directors and representatives of eight museums—four in Moscow and four in Vienna—to learn how they are handling these challenges and why people should still go to museums, even in the digital age.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the death of Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962), the Exilarte – Center for Banned Music (Vienna) is curating an exhibition about the famous Vienna-born violinist Fritz Kreisler.

With numerous pictures, musical materials and life documents, the exhibition illustrates Fritz Kreisler's path from child prodigy to "king of violinists". It illuminates the artistic work of an exceptional talent as well as his fate of emigration forced by the Nazi state and life in American exile.

Exhibition: Fritz Kreisler - A Cosmopolitan in Exile. From Child Prodigy to “King of Violinists”

The EU Delegation to Russia together with the Embassies of Austria, France, Germany, and Hungary invites everyone to take part in the webinar ‘Study in the EU’. 

The webinar will present educational opportunities in the EU countries, including the ERASMUS+ programme, practical aspects of studying in the current environment, as well as recommendations and feedback from Russian students who are currently studying or have recently graduated from European universities.

You will have an opportunity to ask questions to the speakers. You can also submit your questions in advance using the registration form.

Since 2000 literadio has been making Austrian and German-language contemporary literature audible, in cooperation with the IG Autorinnen Autoren also at the book fairs in Frankfurt, Leipzig and Vienna.

The world today is in a state of extreme volatility - climate change, at worst an ecological catastrophe, is dramatically close. Concern about the state of our planet affects us all, unites us all - we bear a global responsibility.

The "EcoDoc" project, organized by the EUNIC Cluster Moscow, regards film as a special medium that can help to initiate and maintain intercultural dialogue. Austria, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany show films on various aspects of sustainable development and seek exchange with Russian civil society.

Film can be a catalyst for dialogue, in which we discuss together not only the challenges we face, but also the opportunities we can still use.

The Austrian Cultural Forum Moscow organizes on November 24 at 6:30 p.m. an online reading with Peter Rosei in the residence of the Austrian Embassy in Moscow. The author will read from his novel “Metropolis Vienna”.

born in Vienna in 1946, Rosei studied at Vienna University and received a doctorate in law in 1968. He has been a freelance writer since 1972, based in Vienna and travelling extensively. His numerous awards include the Franz Kafka Prize 1993, the Anton Wildgans Prize 1999 and the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art 2007. He was awarded the Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria in 2016. Most recently published: Die "Wiener Dateien" (boxed set of 5 books, 2016), "Karst" (2018), "Die große Straße" (2019). (Residenz Verlag)

The city of Graz invites writers from Austria and other countries to spend a year as guests in Graz and realize a project during the stay. The call for applications for the literature scholarship "Writer of the City of Graz" is aimed only at writers and authors (prose, poetry, theatre). 

Applications can be sent by email to kulturamt@stadt.graz.at. The documents must be submitted in PDF format.

Reading festival in the frame of the European Capital of Culture Salzkammergut 2024 on June 22 and 23, 2024 at the Siriuskogl in Bad Ischl

The organizers are looking for committed, creative and concise texts of the German-language literature. The works submitted (prose or lyrical prose) on the subject of “near and far” are intended to reflect in literary form the personal points of view of different people on Europe. The focus is on identity, coming to terms with the past and the effects of globalization in the digital age.

The scholarship offered in the fall of 2023 is intended as an opportunity for photographers to focus on their artistic work and research in the city of Graz. It would thus be highly appreciated if the selected artist would reside in the city between mid-September and mid-October 2023 and shows an interest in getting to know the city’s vibrant local art scene and in connecting with its protagonists. During their stay, the selected artist will have time to work on an already ongoing project or to develop a new one and/or to conduct research.

The Austrian Cultural Forum Moscow is presenting the film "Shadow and Light" with Marlen Schachinger and Paolo Vivian, which was created in the framework of the "International Literature Dialogue" of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria (BMEIA). The 30-minute film explores the value of art and art experience for people today. It illuminates both the aspect of the artists and the recipients and comes to the conclusion: Art is a source for life.
